Does Commercial Branding work in the Hair and Beauty Market?

Every so often, a project comes along that captures exactly what I love about commercial photography and goes to prove that commercial branding imagery works in all markets, including the hair and beauty industry. The shoot at Charlie Milz Hair and Beauty Salon in Stowmarket was one of those days, full of energy, creativity and attention to detail. The brief was simple in theory but full of depth in practice: to create a full collection of images that reflect the quality of service, the personality of the team for a hair and beauty salon and the unique feel of the salon itself.

From the moment I walked in, I knew this would be a complete branding project rather than a straightforward photo session. The salon has a strong sense of style, with thoughtful design, beautiful lighting and an atmosphere that makes clients feel instantly at ease. We planned the shoot to include everything that tells their story, from treatments in action and interior details to headshots and wider shots that show the flow of the space.

My approach to Commercial Photography branding shoots is always to blend storytelling with structure. Before picking up the camera, I like to spend time with the team, understand how they work and see how the space comes to life during a normal day. That preparation means I can anticipate those natural moments that say more about a business than any posed photograph ever could.

With Charlie Milz there was plenty to capture. The stylists and beauty therapists were completely in their element, and it was clear how much pride they take in their work. I focused on small details such as hands at work, the shine of well kept tools, and the textures of products and fabrics, as these touches add depth and authenticity to the final set of images.

As always, lighting played a key role. Natural light poured through the salon windows, creating a soft, flattering glow that worked beautifully for both portraits and action shots. We also took advantage of some controlled studio style lighting to highlight certain treatments and to give the final collection a consistent, polished finish.

One of my favourite parts of any shoot is showing the transformation from behind the scenes to the final image. The difference between what a client sees on the day and what appears in the finished gallery can be striking. A small shift in perspective, the right background blur or a perfectly timed expression can turn an everyday moment into something truly memorable.

I captured a few behind the scenes images during this session to illustrate that process. They are a great way to show clients the thought and craft that goes into every frame. It also makes the storytelling more personal, giving a glimpse of what happens between setting up the shot and delivering the final result.

The finished collection for Charlie Milz Hair and Beauty Salon tells a complete story, one of skill, professionalism and warmth. It reflects a business built on personal service and genuine care and proves you can have successful commercial branding in hair and beauty I am proud to have created a visual narrative that matches the experience their clients know and love.
