Behind the Scenes: A Day of Mini Headshot Branding Sessions with Simply C

A Simply You Mini Branding Portrait and Headshot session is an hour and a half of creativity, conversation and the opportunity for clients to bring out the best versions of themselves. A well-crafted headshot is more than just a photo – it’s a powerful business tool, an introduction, a first impression and a true reflection of the individual in front of the camera. It is, without doubt, an invaluable marketing tool for your business.

I recently welcomed six more individuals to my latest Simply You Mini Personal Branding headshot day, a personalised photoshoot for ninety minutes within a stunning open and versatile Suffolk barn that results in a varied bespoke portfolio of twelve images for their business. This is a behind-the-scenes look at how I tailor each experience to reflect the client’s unique personalities and professional stories.

The Setup: Creating the Perfect Environment

A relaxed environment is crucial in helping clients feel comfortable and confident and I have chosen Claydon Court specifically for its spacious, welcoming, light-filled rooms. From the moment each client arrives they enter a carefully curated space that forms a neutral backdrop filled with natural light and the opportunity to move around and use the room and its furniture.

I encourage clients to bring multiple outfits to explore different looks and feel as comfortable as possible. This all helps to set the stage for a session that is as adaptable as a client’s individual goals.

Tailoring the Session to Each Client

The core focus of these mini sessions is about getting to the heart of what each client wants their headshots or branding images to convey. And if they are not sure, I can use my extensive experience in commercial branding to advise and guide them.

Before I even pick up my camera, I take the time to talk with each person; learning about their profession, their personality and how they plan to use the images. Whether they are updating LinkedIn, enhancing their social media presence, or building a personal brand, each client comes with a unique story and I make it my mission to capture it.

From Posing to Portfolio

Each 1.5-hour session gives ample time for clients to get comfortable in front of the lens as I guide them through different poses, encouraging natural movement to bring out expressions that feel authentic. By reviewing each shot as it is taken and offering gentle direction and positive feedback, each person can relax and let their personality shine through.

Towards the end of the session, clients identify which images they would like to be edited and leave knowing that they will receive a carefully curated mini portfolio of headshots, each photo capturing a slightly different aspect of their personality or brand.

Some shots show warmth and approachability, perfect for client-facing roles, while others portray a sharper, more professional look suited to corporate profiles. Some images focus on portraying the business whilst also revealing the person behind the brand.

Curating a Mini Portfolio That Tells a Story

My attention to detail doesn’t end with the session. Afterwards I edit the chosen images, creating a collection of images that together tell a cohesive commercially focused story. This mini branding portfolio becomes an asset that each client can draw upon for their professional presence.

For me, these sessions go beyond Simply taking photographs. They’re about helping each person feel seen and empowered, creating candid headshots that are both true to their individuality and aligned with their professional goals. Through collaboration and understanding, each session becomes a chance to enhance a client’s unique brand image and show them at their very best.
