Simply think beyond the website photography

Images need to work hard for a good return on their investment so let’s talk about what more branded commercial imagery can do for a business and brand than just talking about professional business photography for websites. One well planned photoshoot session working with an experienced commercial photographer can give you a lot more than a nice website banner or some fresh headshots; it can provide months’ worth of scroll stopping, brand consistent content, if you know how and where to use it.

Brand photography should be an investment. When you book a photoshoot, you’re not just orchestrating a collection of photographs; you’re buying a visual library for your business, a working toolkit of on brand bespoke stock imagery you can use throughout the year.

  • Headshots are perfect for profiles, bios and speaking engagements
  • Workplace and ‘behind the scenes’ shots tell your story
  • Detailed images and close-ups (especially of products and tools) are great for breaking up text or reinforcing your brand
  • Candid and environmental images are useful for ‘about us’ pages and demonstrating personality.

Beyond the website

What starts as a need to refresh (or launch) your online presence doesn’t have to stop there, and as long as your images are consistent in their tone, they can have a multitude of uses.

As well as a website, your images can be used for email newsletters and customer updates, proposal documents and slides, LinkedIn profile banners and job posts or a CV, perhaps some blog headers and ‘feature’ images. Not forgetting printed collateral of brochures, leaflets, annual reports or event signage.

But to make sure you are getting all this value and potential right from the start, every photoshoot starts with a conversation to create an agreed and concise brief.

Variety and planning are key

When I plan a commercial branding photoshoot with a client, we talk about intended uses right from the start. What do you need, where will they be used and why?

Flexibility is key and a shoot can often include a mix of action shots, stills, candid moments and styled composition with wide and close-up angles to clearly tell a story.

We will talk about whether the images need to be portrait, landscape or both and discuss the potential option of creating images with white space for the addition of text and overlays.

All of this gives you flexibility across platforms and formats without needing a dozen different sessions.

So don’t wait until it’s too late!

Commercial branding shoots aren’t just about updating outdated images; it pays to plan. If you know you have a launch coming up, a seasonal offer, a new product or service, or you just want to be prepared, then don’t wait until it’s too late.

It all starts with a clear brief and a photographer who understands how your business works and has a commercial yet creative approach that can authentically and clearly tell your story and attract your ideal audience.
